The World Biogas Association developed the International Anaerobic Digestion Certification Scheme as part of its #MakingBiogasHappen (MBH) programme, which aims to accelerate the global biogas industry’s growth to address urgent environmental challenges. This initiative has been made possible through the support of the Global Methane Hub, TotalEnergies, GHD, and DLA Piper, whose contributions have been instrumental in bringing it to fruition.

ADCS International involved the collaboration of key stakeholders across the global anaerobic digestion (AD) sector. Central to its development were stakeholder consultation workshops, which brought together industry leaders, operators, regulators, technology providers, and academic experts for around the world. These workshops ensured the scheme addresses the diverse needs of the international AD community and sets a robust standard for operational, environmental, and health & safety performance.

The scheme reflects the collective expertise of the AD industry while fostering ongoing dialogue to remain aligned with global best practices and evolving sector challenges.

Global Biogas Regulatory Framework

Complimentary to ADCS International, the World Biogas Association has developed the Global Biogas Regulatory Framework (GBRF) as part of its Making Biogas Happen programme. This is a biogas-specific framework with all the policies, regulations and standards that are needed to realise a high-performing biogas industry at the national level. It is a key resource for policymakers, regulators, and industry stakeholders to establish a robust and sustainable biogas sector.
